So it is possession day, what happens now? As I have been with my buyers from the start this is often the most exciting day for everyone so you will definitely see me at your new home on possession day. This section will explain what happens on possession day and what we look for when we take possession.
As your Saskatoon real estate agent I will advise you when we are putting in the offer to purchase on your new Saskatoon house or condo that we don’t get keys until at least noon on the day of possession. This is as per the contract and this is normal as the lawyers need to send the money to the seller’s lawyer and then they have to let me, the Saskatoon REALTOR®, know that keys are releasable. Do NOT have your movers ready to start unpacking at 12:01pm as if everything doesn’t go 100% right we won’t be able to get into the house. Some Saskatoon real estate agents won’t even let me pick up the keys until noon therefore it is usually advisable to have the movers scheduled for first thing in the morning the day after possession if you have the luxury but if not, ensure they understand that you are at the mercy of the lawyers to get the money in place.
I always get in touch with my clients as soon as I have the keys and as soon as those keys are “releasable” so that we can meet at the house and ensure it is as it should be. I like to meet you at your new home in Saskatoon to give you the keys and to do a walk through. I like to check items such as the furnace, hot water heater, appliances (if they leave those behind), and also make sure that they didn’t remove anything they weren’t supposed to but also that they removed everything they were supposed to.
Once we are all satisfied with your new home it is time to celebrate OR time to move! While I don’t have insurance to cover me or you to help you move, I do always love to come back to celebrate when you are settled in. For me closing day for buyers is one of the most exciting times as it is a new chapter in your lives and I love the excitement that that almost always brings. Sometimes I am more excited about possession day than my clients are!
